The theatre where actor Ewan McGregor once worked as a stagehand has been awarded a £500,000 restoration grant.

Perth Theatre, which opened in 1900, will get one of four Heritage Lottery grants given to Scottish projects.

McGregor took up acting at the theatre and worked there while saving money to go to drama college.

The Kings Theatre in Glasgow, the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh and Campbeltown Picture House will also receive £3m between them from the fund.

Movie hunk Ewan McGregor has confessed he was sick before climbing into a plane with fighter pilot brother Colin for the first time.

The Scots heart-throb was taken for a spin in a Cessna aircraft as a teenager shortly after Colin got his flying licence.

But Ewan confessed he was nursing a hangover at the time and vomited on the tarmac — then in the plane after take-off.

He revealed: “I looked around for a sick bag, but there weren’t any, and he had to slow down so I could throw up out of the window.”

TV viewers will see the Star Wars star take off with Colin again on Sunday, as they fly vintage aircraft for a BBC1 show on the Battle of Britain.
